Pass Mark 

To get the 3 demerit points off your Alberta driver’s license, you need to score at least 80% on the final test in this online Defensive Driving course. If you don’t pass the first time, you can try the course two more times. 

Course Requirements 

  • Internet access and a computer, tablet, or smartphone. 

  • Completion of all course modules. 

  • A passing score of 80% on the final exam. 

  • Alberta residency to be eligible for demerit reduction. 

This course includes audio, video, and interactive exercises and follows the trademarked SAFER System of Defensive Driving, which is designed to help you anticipate, avoid, and respond to road hazards more effectively. 

Certificate of Completion 

Once you successfully complete the course and final exam, a Government of Alberta-approved certificate will be mailed to you within 3–5 business days. 

  • Alberta residents: Take the certificate to your local registry office to apply for the 3 demerit point reduction (eligible once every 2 years). 

  • Non-Alberta residents: You will receive an online course completion certificate, but not the 3-point reduction.
