Drive Smart: Reduce Demerit Points with Alberta’s Online Defensive Driving Program
In Alberta, maintaining a clean driving record is essential for staying safe on the road—and keeping your insurance premiums in check. If you’ve accumulated demerit points on your license, the 3 Demerit Reduction Program offers a valuable opportunity to not only improve your driving skills but also reduce your demerits by three points.
At Action-Safety, we’re committed to helping drivers across Alberta become more responsible, alert, and proactive on the road.
What Is the 3 Demerit Reduction Program?
The Defensive Driving Course (DDC) approved by Alberta Transportation is a 6-hour online program that meets the provincial requirements for 3 demerit point reduction. To qualify, participants must score a minimum of 80% on the final exam. The course features audio, video, and interactive exercises and is built around the SAFER™ System of Defensive Driving, a trusted framework for improving driver competency.
Once completed, Alberta residents will receive a government certificate by mail within 3–5 business days, which can be taken to a local registry office to apply the demerit reduction. Non-Alberta residents can still benefit from the course but will only receive an online course completion certificate (not eligible for demerit reduction).
